Elite Runners
Elite Runner Qualifications

To be considered for Elite Status, runners must have met the applicable qualifying time within the past 2 years (from the beginning of registration, April 1st):

  Marathon Half Marathon
Open Men 2:30 1:13
Open Women 2:55 1:25
Masters Men 2:40  
Masters Women 3:05  


Having met the qualifying time does not automatically qualify athletes for elite status.

To Apply for Elite Status:
Please submit your request to marathon@sgcity.org.

Attach a copy of a complete Running Resume for the past three years, minimum, to current date. For each race, state event, where event was held, date of event, finish time and overall or masters finish place. Include the following as well as any additional information that may help in the review process: Athlete's name, email address, mailing address, phone number, sex, age, date of birth.

If you do not have qualifying times for marathon or half marathon distances and you are a first time marathoner who has run at a high level in shorter distances, i.e. college cross country and believe your training and resume should qualify you for Elite consideration please submit your runner resume with a reference letter from your college or other coach.

Notification of Decision:
Runner will be notified my email that application has been either approved or disapproved. If approved, a Complimentary Entry Form will be e-mailed to the e-mail address shown on initial application

Sub-Elite Qualifications: Runners who do not meet the Elite Qualifications can request to obtain Sub-Elite status and qualify to receive a Guaranteed Entry (runner pays entry fee but bypass the lottery) by meeting the applicable qualifying time within the past 2 years (from the beginning of registration, April 1st). The qualifications for Sub-Elite status are as follows:

  Marathon
Open Men 2:40
Open Women 3:00
Masters Men 2:50
Masters Women 3:10
